Hana Yori Weirdness

So I went to go watch the Hana Yori Dango movie yesterday. It was insane amounts of weirdness, but I really really enjoyed it! This was also the first time I've endeavoured to watch a full-length Japanese movie at a theatre, without subtitles. And it went really well! My friend and I thought that we must have missed something in translation, because the ending seems too weird to be true, but, after some research, it turned out we were right. Total and complete weirdness. :P

So... Tsukushi punches a bear. A friggin BEAR. And no one but my friend and I found this hilarious. Why? Apparently, to a horde of Japanese teenage girls (the vast majority of the audience), the fact that Tsukushi punches a bear is not funny at all. :P

Also... they get chucked on a desert island... and it's all a test? What kind of screwed up families do they have? And they were happy after? Jesus, if my mum chucked me on a deserted island (which, I'm happy to say, she's not insane enough to do... just), I'd bloody kill her when I got off, no matter how in wuv with the Matsujun I was.

And then... Hanazawa Rui with a marriage licence. I didn't quite get that part - did he just get the licence to wed them, or did he become a full-blown priest or something? Please tell me it's the former! And if you tell me it's the latter, also please be kind enough to inform me of what exactly drugs the writers were taking, and where I can get them, cuz they seem super trippy.

Anyway... yes, these twists made for a great afternoon of skipped work and giggles. I totally loved it. :D

PS - If you're wondering where the TOMAGOTO's are, I've decided to quit that, cuz they're all available on the lovely, lovely TOMAlicious forums: http://forums.tomalicious.com
If you're wanting to see some of my other translations, either join that, or check out my website, or some of the other communities here, like tomalicious_frm or ikuta_toma. ^_^

Quick Band Plug!

Just wanted to do a quick plug of my friend's band... they're called 耳切坊主 (Mimichiri Bouzu), and they're a sweet little Okinawan rock band (Okinawa being an island south of Japan - the one where I live. :P)

They don't really need a plug, as they've been going for ages, but more visits to the Myspace are never a bad thing, ne?

This is them:

They're cuter, and less sulky than that in person. :P
This is their Myspace: http://www.myspace.com/mimichiri
Dooooo iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit! With the clicky thing!

I'm playing a gig with the drummer (the one on the far right... no, the other right. :P) in September. Should be interesting... a drummer and a singer.... good thing he's insanely talented, and can play guitar too! But we're looking for more band members.

とにかくぅ。。。
More Tomagoto soon. Very soon! Like, tomorrow, or maybe the next day. Tomorrow is a very very veryvery bad day. Uck!

*Fangirl squeal*

Just went out and bought myself the August editions of GYAO and POTATO magazines. They're fantastic!!

Well, not fantastic as in "loads of excellent reading-material", but fantastic as in *fangirl squeal* plenty of Tomakun! I wish I had a scanner so I could upload this stuff.

The GYAO edition also shows us, on the 2nd page, that Matsujun's horrible clothing choices aren't limited to Domyouji. Holy cow. He's got sequins and sparkly things and silk trousers and loads of scarves around his waist. Topped off with his fabulous HYD perm. Seriously - do these people not have image consultants? And if they do, what on earth are they paying them for? (Though, I can't tell if that's better or worse than Odagiri Joe's knee-high pleather boots on page 54.)

Can someone please tell me if it's just me, or his Matsujun looking more and more scarily like Michael Jackson every day?

Anyway, it's really good to see Orange Range in there too. They come from the town I live in, and one of them went to the high school I teach at, so there's loads of Okinawa patriotism and whatnot! Plus, they are just about fifteen different kinds of awesome.

And I shall end of with just a little more fangirly squealing. Squeeeeeeeeeeeee!! Is it wrong of me to like Tomakun's side profile so much? I never thought I would like anyone's nose as much as I like his. :P How ridiculous is that?

OK, sorry for a delay in getting the latest TOMAGOTO's out (if you even care :P). He's written a couple of really really long ones, and there are some difficult kanji, so it's taking me a while. School holidays have just started, though, so hopefully I'll have a couple more up on Tuesday or Wednesday. :D

Ciao!

トマゴト Volume 138

Mostly because I am a complete idiot, I've decided to start translating Ikuta Toma's TOMAGOTO (his J-web blog). I know plenty of other people do it, but I figured I do it in my head every time I read it anyway, and this is good kanji practice for me (he uses some difficult ones!!).

So, here you are:

トマゴト

[[Eh? Has the atmosphere around here changed?]] <- This references the fact that they changed TOMAGOTO's colours to be consistent with that of Maou today (i.e. black background, red text).

Volume 138. July 10th

This week's gone by quickly, hasn't it?
Episode 2 of Maou will be on TBS at 10pm tomorrow night.
Get home early! Don't let anyone separate you from your TV!
This time, there will be many developments.
Look forward to it!
Ciao.

I know I'll be watching!! ^_^
